fifty two on friday ~ week 7 {texture}

I had a really hard time with the theme this week. I do not remember seeing the sun in at least a week. That has nothing to do with struggling to come up with an idea for the texture theme but it has everything to do with being ready for spring. It also has everything to do with my kids taking a bath in the middle of the day just for something to do.

When I think of texture I usually think of things in nature but the weather has been crummy and I never made it outside. When I took Leah out of the tub, even though I had no light in the room and I had to crank up my ISO, I knew I had my photo for the week.

obsession

I have not taken the kids to the library in months because the last time we went it was so stressful. They were running and being really loud and we almost got kicked out. We definitely got some dirty looks.

I wanted to pick up some books for me so I promised them that they could pick out any books they wanted IF they had perfect behavior. Jordan asked right away if they had any books on fire fighters, when I told him yes he was super excited. They were on their very best behavior. He told me on the way home that he was keeping these books and is not going to give them back.

fifty two on friday ~ week 6 {headless}

I knew right away what I wanted to capture this week... the boots.

Jordan is completely infatuated with everything firefighter related right now. When I saw these boots at the store I hesitated because we already have so much stuff. Eventually I circled back around because I could not resist the urge to buy them for him.

I asked him to stand in the puddle for a second so I could take a picture of his boots. He did not stand still. Silly me. A little boy, a puddle and a sunny day in February equals lots of jumping and splashing.

quiet

I should know better in a house with two little ones, when I do not hear any noise...
someone, somewhere must be up to no good. I caught her in the act. That poor book never had a chance.

fifty two on friday ~ week 5 {food}

2 11 11 (1)

Ok, so maybe technically candy hearts are not considered a food but I am addicted to sugar so they are for me. Every morning I wake up, eyes barely open and I creep down stairs and I make a bee line to our candy stash. I prefer chocolate but if there is none in the house I will settle for anything sweet. Literally, no joke. I do this EVERY morning. I know I have issues. I have tried to kick the habit but it never lasts.

I consider myself a very lucky girl because my husband does the grocery shopping around here. Every year at this time of year he comes home with a big bag of these hearts and he hands out these sweet messages to me and the kids. When I was grabbing my morning handful of candy I thought this was a perfect opportunity to write a simple message to the sweet man I adore. My valentine forever and always.

bubbles

To help with the cabin fever we all have here, the kids have been taking baths in the middle of the day. Jordan is a big fan of lots and lots of bubbles. Leah....not so much. Spring cannot come fast enough.

the routine

Everyday it is the same routine. At nap time we march up the stairs and Jordan asks if he can read Leah a few books. I give a stern look, he looks up at me with his big brown puppy eyes and asks, "just a few...just a few mommy." Every single day I cave and say yes. Under one condition, they must read quietly. Then and only then can she stay in his room and read. Once she starts getting crazy she has to go in her own room. They both jump up and down excitedly at the prospect of reading books together. I remind them of the rules. They promise they will listen. I leave the room. It usually only takes a few minutes before I hear giggling and laughter. When I return to the room they are both under the covers, books scattered on the floor. I act like I am really mad. I tell them "this is your last chance!" They say they are sorry and will not do it again. Hugs and kisses all around to make up for the offense. I give them a few chances before I finally sweep her up into her own room. Don't tell them but I think it is super cute when the do this.
I tried to sneak in today and take a picture of them reading before they got silly on me. I got one click in when Jordan asked if we could take a picture of all of us together reading. I set the camera up on the dresser and quickly took a picture of all three of us together. Not my most glamorous moment but if you walked in my house in the middle of the day, in the middle the week this is what you would get. Nothing fancy here.

day two ~ the blizzard

the first thing Jordan asked when he woke up this morning was if he could go outside. He is crazy over the moon excited about all of this snow. Leah likes it but honestly she could do without it. The poor little thing was having a hard time falling through the snow and then not being able to get back out and move around. Their super sweet Daddy made them a really cool snow house that they spent a whole minute in.

Not too many pictures yesterday and today, not sure if it is normal but my camera really does not like the cold. It does not work quite right in negative degree weather. Arrgh I was looking forward to taking pics in the snow. Oh well, guess I will have to find some other way to enjoy all this snow...brrr.

the blizzard

Leah just loved running up and down the side walk in the "tunnel" of snow.
He got stuck and called me over and asked me to take a picture. He was giggling like a madman.

creative mama turns two

In honor of one of my very favorite blogs, The Creative Mama turning 2 we had a birthday party at our house yesterday! If you have never checked out The Creative Mama you should. It is loaded full of amazing inspiration including everything from crafts, recipes and photography tips.

The kids were over the moon excited when they saw me making cupcakes and mixing up chocolate and I told them we were getting dressed up and having a party.  They were running around like little wild indians and were super excited to pick out their party outfits.

Jordan was a little confused because we were the only ones at the party and there were no presents. In the end we had so much fun eating cupcakes and dancing the morning away. What a simple way to have fun. I think we should party like this more often.

***(added 2/13/11 copied from The Creative Mama site) After all the entries and votes were in, we decided that the image below embodied our 2nd birthday celebration best.  (We love that there are two children, two cupcakes, and all of the criteria was met, including the “2″ and “The Creative Mama” spelled out in yummy icing!)

I am so excited I am the lucky winner of  Berry Bag from Ketti Handbags!
